It managed to survive the depression just barely with it's claim to fame due to two notorious legends. Butch Cassidy made his debut of his bank- robbing career in Telluride, and L. L. Nunn made Telluride the most illuminated town in the world when he was the first to managed to harness AC electricity and ran 8 miles of transmission line into the city. Telluride is endeavoring to strike a balance between maintaining their small town feel and values with the growth of business an marketing.

Breckenridge is a charming Victorian town with lift-served skiing on four interconnected mountains. There s easy-street skiing and snowboarding on Peak 9, tough stuff on Peak 10, and splendid backcountry-style skiing on Peak 7 147 trails in total, with a vertical rise of over 3,000 feet. There's also the Imperial Express SuperChair, the highest chairlift in North America, which opened in the 2005-2006 season. Given all that, it s no surprise that this Vail-owned resort is the second-most visited in the U.S.
This is also Summit County s brashest and liveliest resort, with abundant non-ski and après-ski options. The surrounding town is the largest historic district in the state, with live theater, movie theaters, historic tours, mining for gold, and 79 restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. There s a recreational center with free weights, aerobic classes, two climbing walls, an indoor pool, two hot tubs, and racquetball and basketball courts.
Twenty-five acres of terrain have been dedicated to four snowboard parks, including the Freeway Terrain Park, consistently ranked one of the best on the continent by Snowboarder, Transworld, and Snowboarding magazines. This year, new additions to Freeway on Peak 8 will link three parks (beginner park and pipe, intermediate park, and expert superpark and pipe) for a progression system in one place. Breckenridge also has four half pipes on site.
A recent $12-million expansion investment and a shared lift ticket with Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Vail, Beaver Creek, and Heavenly is more than enough to keep vacationers busy for weeks on end. They have a 3,398-foot vertical drop, 147 trails, 2,358 acres, two high-speed six passenger Super 6, seven high-speed quad chairlifts, one triple, six doubles, one eight-person gondola, four surface lifts, eight magic carpets, and 25 acres devoted to snowboard parks.
